He will sit like this all day long during a blizzard.
It’s his happy place.
We got over 2 feet of snow this week, leading to school being canceled all week long, and my boys (the pups) getting lots of play time in the snow.
Barkley lugged around his rope for hours, despite it freezing and weighing 3x the norm.
Needless to say they both have slept soundly the past few days.
I love snow. Growing up where we had to drive to get to the snow, I still enjoy seeing snow fall from my living room window and driving through town after it settles. It makes me feel like I am staying a a cabin up where I used to go snowboarding.
Plus the outfit requirements are pretty great.
My ideal snow day outfit is a pair of comfy lounge pants, an oversized sweater, big fluffy socks, and a cup of coffee that never runs out. Much like this:
Hope everyone is enjoying their snow day (or lack thereof!)
I love Pinterest. I mean, really LOVE it. (Along with the rest of the online world, I know). Here are a few things that have caught my eye this week (click on the photos for a link to the pin and source). Check out my other boards and follow me to share your pins with me too!:
Typically I pin a ton of adorable outfits but this week I apparently was too cold to think about wearing anything other than sweats and hoodies. Needless to say my pins reflected that this week:
I love to eat, so I will spare you all of the the recipes and pictures of delicious food I pinned while I was starving,, but here are two I can’t wait to try!
So many places, so little time (okay, so little money!). My travel to do list grows faster than I can check places off, so the travel boards help me indulge in my wanderlust. Aren’t these photos gorgeous?
I decided to jump on board the Blogging101 train, because I am realistic about where I am at. I have visions of grand blog posts dancing in my head (much like sugar plums, though the reference is about a month late!) and would love to find my niche where I can gain a following and have a place for creative expression. But realistically I am in need of a push to get started, and to do so in the right direction. So here we go!
My name is Mary and I am here (blogging) because I draw so much inspiration in all aspects of my life from other blogs and things I find online, and my goal is be a source for inspiration as well as I find my way as a writer and as an individual.
I have spent the past few years working constantly and not always taking the time to appreciate and find joy in the everyday. I started exploring freelance writing, and have since fell down the rabbit hole into travel writing as well as content creation and ghost writing. Writing is enjoyable for me, and I want to experience every aspect I can. I feel that a blog is the next step in the right direction.
A Bit About Me
I am passionate about travel, living a fun and meaningful life, and love beautiful and inspiring things. I am sucker for pretty decorative things that I don’t need but feel they will make my home and workspace more enjoyable. I am a teacher in special education, and am fascinated with the inspiring stories I see unfold within my students. I have two dogs that I take far too many pictures of (one of which is is at this very moment trying to climb onto my lab as I type).
Gather Moments is my attempt to collect and share inspiring stories and moments from everyday life and travel that help create a beautiful life. As a lifestyle blog, I am hoping to fill it with content relating to travel, home decor/life, food, and sharing found inspiration.
One of my goals for 2015 is do more writing, and to create a space where I feel inspired to do so. After finally moving our bunny out of the guest bedroom (which serves as my closet as well), I now have the space to create the perfect home office for writing, grad school, and general home organization.
I’ve been scouring Pinterest for ideas and have found so many beautiful spaces that would make me oh so happy to sit and write.
(Seeing a trend? I’m completed obsessed with Kate Spade inspired offices…)
It’s pretty easy to tell what I am leaning towards. But while I would love to be able to sit down at any one of these desks, unfortunately one of the key factors is missing in my house – natural light. But they are a great jumping off point right?
Fall is the perfect time for a warm meal without a lot of fuss. Getting food to table with less dishes to do later? Sounds like a win to me.
This week I have been searching Pinterest for some one pot inspirations, and this weekend I tested one and invited the family over. Easy to prepare, and not much of a mess to clean up led to a great evening, and I am sold on incorporating these types of meals into my routine on a regular basis.
The recipe I tried out was from Laughing Spatula, and wow, it was delicious. My oven took quite a bit longer (1hr 30 min), and I cranked it up to 425 for the last 15 minutes to get the chicken to brown. I was worried that it would get dried out being in there for so long, but it was moist and tasty. I paired it with garlic parmesan green beans and french bread. Yum! It got great reviews from my dinner guests and I will definitely be making it again.
Needless to say I’ve been pinning lots of combined meals after such a success. Here are a few of my favorites that I can’t wait to try:
Anyone else feeling hungry after seeing those? I know I am!
This is what the end of the year looks like for a PE teacher. After a busy 2 weeks of putting on a medieval themed field day, running a 5k with a student, an trying to wrap up the school year- I’m ready for a nap. Add in finishing up my research proposal for grad school and report cards, and I am ready to switch gears to our summer school program.
Looking forward to a more relaxed schedule and bringing the students to the beach each day!
